I
am Anne Putnam, founder and President of The Family Connection.
The company provides products and programs designed to strengthen the family unit. We are in the process of producing 2 new
product lines, developing programs and publishing books. The company
continues to grow daily. My 5 year plan keeps getting shorter.

I
now share the beginning of the story, while the remaining chapters
wait to be written.
I had a full-time career as a CPA for 15 years.
After our second child was born, I chose instead to be at home as
a full-time mom. I felt it was the best way to serve as a
role model for them. My 9 to 5 got replaced by a 24/7 mother
position. I didn't realize then where that decision would
take me. The next 6 years brought a constant stream of changes.
As a professional, rewards for a job well done came in the form
of a paycheck. How would I know in this new “position”
if I was doing a good job? I was no longer managing or relating
to people in a 9 to 5 setting where evaluation of one's work is
fairly objective and well defined. Children don't care how long
your "to do” list is or what your schedule is. They just
need you. They didn't care if I was perfect at my job.
They just needed my presence, my time, and my attention. I
no longer needed a paycheck to feel important or rewarded; just
a smile, a hug and an I love you.”
The day arrived when our youngest daughter started kindergarten.
After researching the job market, I decided there was no way I could
return to the "corporate world" at that time. I had been
changed forever. My heart was in one place only.
After much soul searching, it was clear that my primary focus and
energy was still aimed at my family. In observing other families,
I noticed how few spend time together. Family doesn't seem
to be the main focus. I felt these families were deprived
of some of the best experiences they could have. A strong
family unit promotes self-esteem, security, and self-confidence.
There is no greater feeling than that. A family supporting
each other with unconditional love could eliminate much of the anger,
sadness, and loneliness that afflicts our society.
After discussing my goals and objectives with my husband and dearest
friend Renae', I decided to start The Family Connection. Their
encouragement moved me towards designing my first project, The Family
Vacation Game.
The game marks the end of the first Family Connection chapter. The
next chapters will feature more products designed to promote cooperative
family interaction. Additionally, there will be programs to help family members unite as a family. Lastly, books will
be published to develop the family unit.
I have been asked how much I was willing to risk in this new endeavor.
The question for me doesn't focus on the risk, but on how many families
could benefit. I felt that if I could influence one family
to spend time together, then it was worth the risk. As idealistic
as it sounds, families who become more united usher us toward a
more acceptable and loving world.
As my youngest started to step out into her new life, I stepped
out into my new journey. Our journeys are quite different.
My doors don't seem to open as easily as hers. The challenges
outweigh the progress at some points, but the path is one worth
blazing. I continue to press forward in my dream to encourage
and facilitate family unity as I continue to pray that world peace
may not be just a dream.
